The Maasheggen are a living laboratory. Research is taking place in the area to the benefit of social sciences, economic sciences as well as natural sciences. Insights from research are shared and used to further develop the area in a sustainable manner. This research does not happen overnight. A group of scientists from several Dutch universities will start up and supervise this research. The research will of course have direct links with daily practice.
An important research theme is focused on the changes of the biosphere area in response to human and natural activities and the effects these changes resultingly have on people and the environment. Additionally, the research will study and compare the interrelations between natural ecosystems and social-economic processes.
